Now you see it, now you don't...

m'kay - after having much trouble with some parasites hijacking my
default homepage, and realising i should really learn more about xp
before diving on in, i have restored my pc to an earlier state, and
have discovered an interesting problem...

when i access My Documents and look in the folders i've put there, all
my files appear as normal.

however, when i try to access those same folders from My Computer, i
see all the folders as usual, but no files. when i tried to copy a
file there, the pc helpfully told me the file already existed. it also
seems that all those files are read-only, which i've tried to change,
but can't - it reverts back each time.

i'm guessing the solution could be rather simple, as i'm the kind of
person who has a rip-roaring time playing with programs and such, but
when it comes down to using the actual operating system, i rank around
pre-school. i wouldn't mind if it weren't for the fact that ws_ftp
also can't see the files, meaning i can't upload anything i haven't
copied into a temp folder so it's actually visible.

i've trawled through posts on this and other groups and found very
little - a few links offering promising answers 'couldn't be found' -
so any help would naturally be very much appreciated.
