Humberto A. Sanchez II

I am running Windows XP profession on a Compaq Evo N610c.
Even though I check the "Always show icon on the taskbar"
option on the Advanced tab in the Power Options applet, I
never get the icon to display in the System Tray. Any
idea what gives?

Try this: Right click on your taskbar, and choose Properties. Look for 'Hide
inactive icons' at the bottom of the window that appears. If it's checked,
choose the Customize button to the right.

Find the one relating to your power icon, and make sure Always Hide isn't
selected.

Post back if it's a no-go.

Patrick,

Hmm. I had tried this before. The "Hide inactive icons"
toggle was/is not selected. Good idea though.

Humberto,

Thought you might have already tried that, but since you didn't mention
it...

I found some info in a post from a Microsoft tech guy. He suggested making a
new user account, logging in as that account, and then seeing if it shows up
then. If not, then he suggests booting from a CD, and running update from
repair. He notes that this will reinstall all the system data, and all your
updates will have to be reinstalled.

Also, found a post from Kelly (MVP) that suggested the following: Deactivate
the SSDP and uPnP Service. Go to Start - Run - services.msc. Find the
services SSDP Discovery Service and the Universal Plug and Play Device Host.
Stop them, set to disabled, and reboot. I haven't tested either of these, so
at this point I'm just passing along suggestions in hopes of helping.

Let me know!

Hope this helps some!
