Novice here: I need instructions on an IP stack rebuild

I had a "brown out" the other day while my computer was
on. I only dimmed for about 3 seconds, but after that I
couldn't get my browser to access the Internet. I spoke
with comcast and I was able to ping the comcast server
once and then it wouldn't ping it. COmcast was at a loss.
I spoke to CompUSA support (where I bought the machine)
and we determined it was one of three things: 1. either
the Ethernet card died during the brown out; 2. My
Firewall was blocking access; or 3. I needed to rebuild
my IP stack. I uninstalled my firewall and still nothing.
Before installing a new ethernet card I want to check my
IP stack. The technician pointed me to the MS website to
find out how to rebuild, but being a straight user (ie.
just technical enough to get myself in trouble) I am at a
loss of what to do to rebuild this. In fact I don't even
know for sure that is the problem, but I have exhausted
everything else I can think of.

Any pointers from those of you who know more than I do
would be APPRECIATED!

Thanks.

Hi :-)

Since you did not post necessary information such as the version of Windows
or IE you are using, I can only make a general suggestion. You might try the
following and see if it helps:

How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q299357

or........

You can also try this:
Open up the properties for the connection
Click Install
Choose Protocol
Choose "Have Disk" and point to \windows\inf (your INF path)
Choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
After Completed, Reboot

Be sure to also repair the WINSOCK
http://www.dslreports.com/r0/download/513852~62fe0e8dc00fac87e6f0f83c54d283a4/WinsockFix.zip

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
