Any Active Directory Experts out there..

Will you please describe the problems you had migrating from Novell to AD?

And..

If anyone else had problems just installing AD, please describe your
problems installing AD?

Warmest Regards...

I am currently engaged with a client doing a 25,000 user NDS to Windows
Active Directory migration.

Maybe not directly addressing you question but an obstacle that we have
experienced in migration from a Netware to Microsoft Windows implementation
was that in the Netware world end users are used to only see the relevant
folders on the file system. Netware hides all folders that users do not have
access to. With the Microsoft implementation users will see all folders even
if they have no right to them. (They will not be able transverse those
folders or have any other access).

We had to re-design the folder and share structure after the migration to
ensure ease of use for the end-users.

They will not be able to see any folder under ones that they cannot
traverse. You can hide shares by prepending a $ to the share name.

That only works for shares - the issue is that once you are mapped to a
share you can see all folders in a folder that you do not have read access
to, unlike Netware. Even though you can see them you may not enter them.

We are in the middle of our Novell to AD migration. We haven't found a replacement for the Novell Application Launcher. Does anyone have a replacement for NAL on the Windows side of things?

I am not looking for pushing apps to the desktop. We would add a user to a Group in Novell and then they could have an icon appear in their NAL window based on that group membership. This way was can give access to reports and databases based on group memebership

Any ideas

Let me know

Nathan
