I am looking for a program that I can run on XP and W2003 Server that can
e-mail an administrator after the server crashes and then reboots.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks.

If the server reboots after the crash then you can get the Task
Scheduler to launch a batch file with one of the many command
line mailers inside, e.g. mailto.exe, sendmail.exe or blat.exe.
All of them can be downloaded freely from various sites.

Many thanks!

There is a program called Servers Alive that used to be free for use on less
than 10 machines. They have changed the wording on their website but it
looks like the trial version is not time limited. Don't know about limited
features. Try it.

I like it.... Even better, how about adding the batch file to the
Startup folder? You'll get an e-mail every time that the server boots,
but, then, how often do you boot a server?

The license agreement says:

=========================
"The trial version is limited to ten 10) check entries. You can register
the product and then you will be able to check up to 1000 check entries
with the standard edition and upto 5000 with the enterprise edition.
Each registration code covers a single copy of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT
installed on a single machine. You need a unique registration code for
each copy of the program you want to run with upto 1000 or 5000 entries."

I use the method for all sorts of things, e.g.
- Sending me backup reports every 8 days
- Informing me when clients forgot to change backup tapes
- Telling me about mains outages
- Alerting me about low server disk space.

My clients are all over the town and not all of them
allow remote access. This method usually alerts me
about a problem before the client becomes aware
of it, which makes him feel very secure.

Thanks. We are evaluating this.
