Notification of new mail in Outlook 2003

Hi all.....does anyone know either:
(a) if theres a way of getting Outlook to display a new mail alert for mail
arriving in sub-folders of the Inbox

or

(b) Why the hell Outlook no longer does this?!!!

I have recently upgraded to Office 2003 (if you can call it an upgrade..),
in my old version of Outlook I got a litle envelope in teh system tray when
new mail arrived regardless of which folder it was delivered to. In Outlook
2003 it seems I can only be notified whe something goes to the default inbox.
Given that I need to organise everything into folders (believe me it gets
very messy if i dont!) and i'm sure many other business users do the
same....why the hell is the notification thing only for the default folder?
As things stand I have to check my email "manually" every few minutes which
is a bit of a pain to say the least! (sorry - rant over!)

Any clues anyone?

Mail NEVER arrives in a subfolder. It ALWAYS arrives in the Inbox. You may
have rules that move it elsewhere.

Outlook 2003 SP2 does work that way, I believe. Rules run before the
process that checks for new messages in the Inbox. I don't believe there's
any way to change that.
 
The envelope removal for mail moved by a rule to was a change "by user
request".

There are many other ways to get you notified for new e-mails;

Thank you for the info, much appreciated. I ind it staggering that the
response to "user request" was a blanket removal - surely making it optional
was a better move? Anyhoo....thank you for sorting it for me.

That seems to be Microsoft's penchant. Instead of adding an option to
revert to a prior behavior, they eleminate the prior behavior. They don't
really like people to have too many options.
