Hello Ronnie,
Thank you for your feedback.
I am not offended by the contents of your reply.
| not a good idea to restrict a post to a certain group
| of people when looking for help.
I was only suggesting 'Subject: "MVP: ..." ' because,
after apparently not making much headway with advice from
non-experts, RedDevil's post (9/27/2003 10:26:14 AM)
pleaded,
|> Please help me out, I really need a solution
|> Please could any of the MVP's help me out here
| There are many, many excellent and knowledgeable people
| who post here,
Certainly!
| including yourself
Hardly! I am neither "excellent" nor "knowledgeable".
The little that I know about XP, is eclipsed by how much I
did not even know existed until I started reading posts at
this newsgroup.
In more than nine months of using Win XP Pro (OEM, pre-
installed) on my laptop, I have never encountered any
major problems at all, let alone any problems which have
been posted here at xp.customize or over at
xp.accessibility.
(Although: my PC does run slower after having installed
XP/IE SP1 - the subsequent hotfix to address this issue
seems to have had little effect, but since this issue is
hardly ever raised in this newsgroup, I can only assume
that it must be something to do with the configuration of
my PC.)
- I read all the words in both the subject line and the
body of each post that I read.
- I endeavour to ascertain the actual question that the
original poster is attempting to ask.
- Before I suggest that an original-poster read [Start] |
Help and Support |, I do it myself and invariably find
that the path to the answer is so convoluted, that it is
far easier to just give them the answer. I also walk
through the procedure, in order to get the exact captions
on titles, tabs, boxes, links, buttons...
- I attempt to compose my replies in such a way as to be
language/gender-neutral (for visitors from all areas of
this planet) and non-patronising (for those that might be
XP-technically challenged.)
| ... as an insult.
Thank you for pointing that out. It never occurred to me
that any expert might be insulted by this. It is not my
intention to insult anybody, so would it instead be
appropriate/acceptable to suggest 'Subject: "Experts
only: ..." ' or even to suggest to "do a [New Post]" ?
As you can tell, I am not an expert. However, every day
I learn more about how this newsgroup functions (and
dysfunctions.)
Once again, thank you for your comments.

Hello RedDevil,
If you are still unable to resolve these issues,
then I suggest you do a [New Post], with the Subject:
"MVP: Notification icons and general icons from theme"
Restate your problems.
List the articles you read and then applied.
For example,
- "Troubleshooting the Notification Area" at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_n.htm#na
- "Troubleshooting Themes" at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_t.htm#themes
Hopefully an MVP will be able to assist.

I don't mean this to be contrary but it's not a good idea
to restrict a post to a certain group of people when
looking for help. There are many, many excellent and
knowledgeable people who post here, including yourself.
Some of these folks would consider a post asking for help
only from a specific group of people as an insult.
