notification area expansion icon gone

The notification area expansion icon has long been gone
from my toolbar. How can I restore it.

Thx in advance for any insight that you may offer.

You have turned off the Hide Inactive Icons option on your toolbar
properties,.

However, if I turn on the option again, the icon still
does not show.

In that case no icons on there are currently "Inactive"

The issue has been fixed. As long as I specify some icons
to be allways hidden, the missing icon comes up again.

Thx and sorry for the dumb question :)
