My notification area has doubled in size. I tried to use the double arrow to shrink it but it doesn't work. It is not locked and I'm lost. Any Ideas

Hi,

Try dragging the glider over toward the Start button in the Quick Launch
area to only having three icons/buttons showing. If that doesn't help nor
apply:

This can happen by opening Accessibility Options, etc. If the icons on the
Quick Launch bar are showing as being larger, it will result in the taskbar
being twice its height and also include the date or similar under the clock.

If this is the case, right click the Desktop/Properties/Appearance/Advanced.
Under the Item drop box choose Caption Buttons and change the number by one,
ok your way out, then rest to 25.

And/or reset your default to the XP Theme.

Other options to consider if the above doesn't help, nor moving the glider
over toward the Start Button to list only three icons in the Quick Launch
bar:

Lock Size, Settings and Position of the Taskbar (Line 128)

Restore the Taskbar to Default Functionality (Line 164)

Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Length, or depth? If the whole taskbar, including this, has doubled in
depth, a common cause is that the hatched 'handle' right of the Quick
Launch area has got dragged down so it is now somewhere under the right
of the Start button. Look for it there and drag it right and up to
where it should be
