These boards will temporarily become read-only beginning Sunday, April 11,
2004 at 1:00 P.M. (PST). This is only temporary and will remain in effect
until maintenance work is completed. Current time estimates are for the
work to take a few hours.

The web based interface will continue to function throughout this period and
as such, those accessing through that interface will not be effected. Those
who do not currently use that interface but wishing to continue to access
these board can find the web interface at the following URL:
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp

Doesn't that mean that only those connecting directly to the Microsoft
news server would have read only?

It sure would. And what's up with calling it a "board"? It's not a BBS or AOL,
it's a nntp newsgroup that happens to mirrored to a web based discussion group.
Ah, well, still good to get the heads up for those using news.microsoft.com as
the nntp server for these groups.
