I went to get updates and this is the notice that came back:

To use this latest version of Windows Update, you will need to upgrade some
of its components. This version provides you with the following enhancements
to our service:

Express and custom installation: Choose only the most recent critical
updates or pick and choose from all available updates.
Smarter downloads: If downloading is interrupted, the process will start up
where it left off the next time you download that update.
Smaller downloads: Only the files your computer needs are downloaded,
saving download time and connection-speed costs.
One version: Only the most recent updates are offered to you.
Less clutter: You can now hide updates you don't want to see.
Update A News from Microsoft section on the Windows Update home page
displays tips and the latest information.

Anyone else get it? I haven't downloaded it as of now. Hopefully it goes
smoothly when I do.

Did the update, then received 6 updates. All went smoothly. Does require
reboot.

Good luck folks!!

JJ,

I got a Software Upgrade for some Windows Components required and it says
892130 Windows genuine Advantage validation Tool.

I got the same set as JJ, for XP.

Curious thing - after all had finished, and even after a second restart, I
still had the little shield saying it wanted to install the Outlook Express
fix, even though it had clearly already installed it, and indeed it was
there for all to see in Add/Remove Programs.

It wouldn't go away, so I let it have another go, and then it seemed happy.

Will there ever be a time when I don't go through this ritual without
butterflies in my stomach? I doubt it.

I have to modify my earlier statement. One my first laptop MS Updates has increased in speed but on my slower laptop and desktop
there was not an improvement but will test later next week when the server is less busy.

I saw the same thing at the windows update site on 5 computers so I guess
Microsoft made a big change there.

Everything loaded fine on xp pro sp2
I am about to do it on my vista machine
robin

everything loaded fine on vista too.
