hello,

my computer had been running for about 10 days, when yesterday, i finally
decided to shut it down.
when i tried to do so, the "saving my settings" dialog was taking an
eternity to complete, so i pushed the reset button on PC, and then i shut i
down.
when i tried to boot-up my computer this morning, something f*cked up
happened: nothing is being displayed on the screen, just a series of
successive 2-3 second-long beeps.

I think it might be the power supply. However, both CPU+power supply fans
start no prob when i boot the PC.

Any thoughts?

Try clearing the CMOS?

those beeps mean something, and by counting them and noting the pattern you
can decipher the error the computer is trying to tell you.
First you need to ID your motherboard, ie the make and full model number.
Then you need to get hold of the manual for your motherboard. You may have a
hardcopy already, or you could download the pdf manual from the
manufacturers website.
The manual well tell you what those beeps mean.

Not to be mean, but if you don't know how to reset the CMOS settings, you'll
have little chance of troubleshooting this on your own.

If you have a PC smart buddy, have him look at it and pay attention.
Otherwise, off to a PC shop for you!

how can i do so?

See the motherboard manual for the jumper location and instructions,
or remove the battery for 10 minutes while the power plug is removed
from the power supply.

Different motherboards have their own beep codes, but if you have
trouble locating your mobo's manual, here's something you can try. If
the beeps are regular, long ones of equal length, they often mean that
you have problems with your system memory. Try removing and
reinstalling your RAM sticks - with the power completely off. Or
substitute them with known good ones.
