Just as I was heralding Internet Explorer as being a
better browser than the competition - the whole thing
falls to pieces............ As a web designer I have
always had a preference for Mozilla driven browsers ....
up until recently!!! Whats changed??? Well for one thing
its a Microsoft product so why expect it to work
properly???? None of them do!!! This baby is a
nightmare......... very slow. if dowmloading an image
it's only allowing me to do so as untitled and as a .bmp
file type The Ctrl + Enter address bar shortcut no longer
works and guess what?. there's no documentation on this
and better yet - NO SUPPORT!!! Hat's off to microsoft!!! -
not exactly brain scientists when it comes to customer
relations, eh?
.... and yer that damned annoying pop-up that's ever
present - I have actually got a pop up killer but that
stops all pop-ups and sometimes you want the friendly
ones..............
For now I'd welcome any suggestion that could resolve the
address bar shortcut issue and the file type download
issue...........

As for the problem of not being able to save an image other than in .bmp
format -
Usually clearing your Temp. Internet Files usually clears this problem - in
IE go to Tools...Internet Options...General tab, Delete Files.

See this article for more information:

Internet Explorer Saves Images As Bitmaps (.bmp Files)
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810978

Or, this could be the issue:

Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in the Proper Format if
Username:Password Is Part of the URL
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q260650

As for CTRL+Enter not working, see this site:

Solution Found!!! ......................... I took an interest in
something someone tried for solving other problems related to their browser
being 'hijacked' by malicious web sites....... I downloaded SpyBot ran it
and deleted all the spurious registry entries.......................... On
reboot I found I had lost my 'Hotbar' but I could now save JPegs as Well as
bitmaps............ I reinstalled Hotbar as before and everything works just
fine!!!! I think something caused conflict with hotbar/Internet Explorer
Registry Values which in turn prevented me from saving picture files as
normal (what exactly that was I don't know!). Thanks to those of you who
suggested it might be cache/temp internet folder related....... ut as I said
I keep a 'clean house' and this was definitely not the cause of the problem
in this instance!!!!

Good Luck!!!

Hello John,

I'm glad that all works "o.k." again, but I'm afraid that youre not yet
home-free .... "hotbar" is actually a sort of mal-ware that actually is not
there to help you, but only helps the designers of that piece of mal-ware,
by spying on whatever you do.

Suggestion : Search for "hotbar spyware" (without the double-quotes) on
Google, or visit http://simplythebest.net/info/spyware/hotbar_spyware.html
(which I found by applying the above search on Google :-)
