notes and contacts popups

I am having problems with Outlook 2007.

When I double click a contact to edit it, it only minimizes and I am unable
to see the contact record.

When I double click a note, it only maximizes and I am unable to change its
size.

I have searched the menu commands, and tried several things including
deactivating add-ins, but nothing seems to change this display behavior.

What is wrong?

Right-click the handle on the Taskbar and choose Size. Can you resize it then
with the arrow keys?

Nope. Size is greyed out.
