Notepad

I want to change the generic Notepad that come with Vista to one more
towards my needs. Is there a way to force Vista to allow me to replace
Notepad?

Not that I know of, although you can change Notepad's association of .txt
files to another application. I personally like Crimson Editor, but there
are many other worthy replacements, like Editpad and Notepad2.

Yes. I used to use Notepad+ a long time ago, when I was using Windows98.
It allowed you to replace notepad.exe, and fully replace it. I would think
that the installation noted for Win2000 may be still valid with Vista.

However, it is an old program now, and if your needs are more demanding you
are better off by installing a more full featured text editor alongside
Notepad. I use EditPad Pro, but I still use Notepad as well for quick
notes. EditPad Lite is free.

Another thing - associating .txt files to another editor is very easy, so
having to 'replace' Notepad is not neccessary.
