I have recently had problems with Email JPG attachments, sometimes when I try
to open them I get Notepad text, the only way to view them is to save to
harddisc, right click, use open with and select Windows Picture and Fax
Viewer. I have even selected always use this for this type of file. If I go
to properties of the file it says Jpg File Opens with Unknown application,
when I try Change and select Windows Picture and Fax Viewer It doesn't
change. All of my Jpg files have the Notepad Icon.
Can anyone help?

Were you logged in under an admin-level account at the time (so you can make
registry changes)?

Don, there is a rule that always works, no matter what you're trying
to accomplish: "If you're ever tempted to use the phrase '... assume I
have ...', you probably don't."
Switch to the Admin account, then open the REG file in NOTEPAD and
read the file to learn what it is trying to accomplish. If you can't
open the file in NOTEPAD, as I couldn't, extract it first then open
and read it. Having read and understood the changes, double click the
extracted file, and it should fix your problem.

If you got stuck with Windows XP Home Edition, you must reboot into Safe
mode to login under the Administrator account (or any account which was
included in the Administrators group). In Windows XP Pro, just logout of
your current Windows session and login under the Administrator group (or any
account in the Administrators group). Your normal account doesn't have
admin privileges.

I have Xp Pro, and when I boot up I don't get a choice of which account to
select, it just goes straight into Windows. I must explain that I know just
enough about my computer to get myself into trouble.

You configured Windows XP Pro to login automatically. That means it logs in
under whatever account to told it to login under. Although you can change
that behavior, there is nothing stopping you from logging out and logging
back in under a different existing account, so just login under the
Administrator account.

I tried The Elder Geeks idea of hitting Ctrl, Alt and Delete at the welcome
screen, but windows just started as usual. I hate to be a pain, but how can I
Login as Administrator

Once you are logged in, just logOUT (and then login as Administrator).

Did you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del TWICE?

Vanguard

I did hit C,A,D twice. When I loged out the only choice to log in was my own
account. When I went into User Accounts it said "Don Hardie Computer
Administrator", I then tried the JPG Fix but still got the error.
