I have the same problem, Carey, but what happens is I
click on Start | All Programs | Accessories | Notepad but
notepad never opens up. Is that the aftermath of a virus
or something? (My NAV, AdAware, and Spybot come up
clean). Thanks!
EditPad Lite is an excellent Notepad replacement.
It's a lightweight text editor, but certainly not as bare
as the standard Notepad that comes with Windows. http://www.notepad-replacements.com/editpadlite.html

I had the problem where I would click on the NOTEPAD icon
and nothing seemed to happen. I checked the Properties on
the icon and found that it was activating something called
ACTMOVIE.EXE instead of NOTEPAD.EXE. I changed this to
NOTEPAD.EXE in the properties box and now it's working
again fine. Give that a try and see if that's the problem.
