I can see notepad in my accessory but it won't open when
I click on it. I have sever things in it saved but can't
retrieve. I have opened just about everything else.
Sometimes my system runs real slow too but I have cleaned
it numerous times and installed a new version mcAfee last
week and removed all threats and virus's but can't get
into notpad.

I guess something is wrong with your notepad program then?
But that should not keep you from accessing your files!
Files created with notepad are by default saved as txt-files and
can be opened with most other text editors or word-processing
programs. Wordpad for instance, which is also part of windows xp.

good luck!

Notepad does not store any information in it's own file. It is simply a text
editor that creates text files and then saves these text files to the hard
drive.

Go to start/Search and search for notepad.exe you should find several
copies on the hard drive, depending on how XP was installed and if you have
upgraded with a service pack. Double click each copy, in the search results
window, of this file until you find one that opens notepad. Move this copy
to the C:\Windows\System32 folder and let it over write the copy taht is
there.

You can also open files created in Notepad using Wordpad or any other text
editor.
