I have had a Sony notebook for three years without a glitch. However, 10
days ago after I unplugged a USB hub Windows XP did not shut down and
therefore I did a "reset." After that the power switch did not work (the
machine could not be turned on).

I took the notebook to a repair shop and after the repair, which included
the change of a 128MB memory module from Micron to Kingston, the machine can
be turned on now. But now the machine shuts down in the course when some
programs are opened (e.g. MusicMatch, Norton WinDoctor), but Outlook
Express, Word, etc. work fine. The other problem is the power shuts down
after the machine has been idle for about fifteen minutes, even though the
Power Option is not set this way.

Can someone please tell me what may causes the above problems before I take
the notebook to the repair shop again.

I have a COMPAQ Presario 2700 Laptop...have had for 18
months. Had to have the HD reformatted by computer tech.
After a month of so, started having problems with my
power. It will sit and run all night (screen saver) and
when I start to do some work in some programs it just
shuts down-loss of power. Checked the power
settings...OK! I have checked and it is a random thing.
Took the battery out to see if it was the problem but it
was not. No one can tell me why the computer shuts down
on it's own. Been on the phone with COMPAQ and now they
say I'm going to have to do a Quick Restore and put the
computer back to it's original configeration. Will loose
all my date Unless I back it up on disk.
