Notebook Compaq Presario V6137 Cannot fill full screen

I replaced a Toshiba notebook to-day with a Compaq Presario and all works
well except 1 thing.

When I am on the Internet the display does not fill the full page. It is all
there, but in maybe 75 % of the total space.

On the Toshiba I had at the bottom an icon where I could increase it to 125
% , 150 % even 200%.

How do I increase the size on the Compaq? The reference book does not touch
upon that and Search within that Internet window also does not bring forth a
solution.

I am using windows xp Pro with this notebook.

It might help if you were a bit more specific about what you
mean, and perhaps posting screenshots somewhere and a link
to them here.

I told you the name of the notebook.

I gave you the OS.

I think Kony is saying, he doesn't follow what you are saying.

When I look up the R6137, it has a resolution of 1280x800. Sort
of a wide screen, a 16:10 ratio. It could be that your old
notebook had a different ratio, like 5:4 or 4:3. A "piece of paper"
viewed on the screen, will fit a wide screen and a non-wide screen
a bit different. Is that what you are seeing ? The wide screen will
leave room to the sides of the sheet of paper, room that can be
used for tool pallets and the like.

It sounds like your previous notebook had a magnification function,
which allowed the desktop to be panned. As you moved the mouse on
the old notebook, would you "move around" a larger frame ? That is
panning. I've read at least one person's experience with a desktop
SIS chipset, where it went into panning mode, whenever you asked
for a desktop larger than a certain resolution.

This is panning. The larger outside border is the whole desktop.
The smaller window is the part you see on the screen. When the mouse
"bumps" against the edges of the smaller window, the window into
the virtual desktop moves. That is the panning action. The ratio
between the Virtual Desktop size and the Visual size, is the
magnification ratio the user has selected.

If the Compaq is using a different chipset, it could be that the
video driver doesn't support the panning function.

The built-in graphics on your new notebook are GMA950. I haven't
been able to find any info on supported resolutions.

Reword what you wrote, being multiple times more descriptive
and perhaps proper terms. "Display does not fill the page"
makes no sense. The page might not fill the display but not
the other way around.

So how much work did you expect us to do, digging up specs
that you should have available and could have provided?

My notebook doesn't have this problem, am _I_ missing
anything? You are missing a full description of the problem
and the hardware. Maybe its what Paul suggested, your old
laptop driver panned... or maybe not. Should we really
guess just so you dont have to make the extra effort to
provide full details of the problem YOU need help with?

If you just want an answer more appropriate to what you'd
written, yet similarly incomplete: Check your settings in
Display Properties and try a newer video driver.

I tried "panning" and it apparently does not work on this notebook.
You asked, whether I see "a piece of paper"?
Well, that describes it well. I see the whole of CNN.com and then on the
side a white "piece of paper", if you will.

I went to COMPUSA a little while ago since that is where I bought the
notebook and I was nearby, and the Technical guy there said that not to
worry, it is very likely something peculiar for CNN and lower resolutions.

Since it shows up mostly on CNN (since that is my home page) he said not to
change resolution just for that website.

That all makes sense now to me too.
