Not valid Win32 program

I have a problem that just started a day or so ago. Some
(most) of the programs that normally run perfectly fine,
have gone strangely brezerk. When I try and open then, I
get a message saying that the file is not a valid win32
program. What...is going on?

Do you have an up-to-date virus scanner running on your system?

Other than BigFixIt, no.
I use housecall free virus scanner to check my system.
The scanner says nothing's come up.
