Basically, I was going through my room the other day and found Mechwarrior3, quite an old game I think, but I had an urge to play it, so I go ahead and install it. It all goes well, until it's done and I try to play it. Whenever I do try, it always comes up with this notice:

Video Error
Rendering via the GameZ engine is not supported because the 'Software Render Files' component was not installed during Setup

Even though when I installed it, which I went through and checked again, the Software Render Files were definately checked to be installed (I also tried it without them checked, but the same thing happened), and whenever I click OK another thing pops up saying:

Video Error
Failed to initialize video device

Any help on how to sort it so I can play?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks;

You say an old game?
What was the operating system you used to run it on?
What is your current operating system, It may not be compatable with it??

Hmmm, may not be compatible with XP - have you tried to run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode?

What I was going to suggest.

Also, are all versions of Direct X backwards compatable? 1999 would suggest something written in DX6 (unless its opengl).

Would DX6 be compatable with modern hardware?
