Hi,

My computer is responding....

....but there must be something wrong with my last post on
the 'black media screen' because I'm not getting a
response. :)

If someone could respond even just to say, "Sorry,
absolutely no idea" then at least... well, that would be
better! :) LOL

Thanks,
Jason

OK - that's an easy request. John Kelly did respond to your first post.

Maybe it's a codec issue, if you are using MPEG2 source files.

Thanks for your reply,

This isn't a CODEC issue, because I can preview the clips
when they're in the collections pane, just not when
they're assembed in the film building pane at the bottom.

For example, I click on a jpg and can view the image in
the preview pane. I drag it down to the film pane and so
build my movie. I then click rewind, play, etc., and
though the tracking bar moves throughout the movie, I see
nothing. I can save the movie file, and the resulting AVI
is fine. But there's no way to preview before saving it.

This is a new problem, and as far as I know, I haven't
changed anything. I've since tried to update Windows
Media and Windows Movie Maker, but with no luck.

I am able to use other movie making software and the
preview windows in these programs works fine.

Thanks for any help you can give.

During previewing MM2 will drop whatever info it can to keep up with the
need for real-time playback. That's not the case when rendering a movie, as
it takes the time it needs to get it all there.

So it seems like something about your computer. Maybe use the Task Manager
to see what's happening in your CPU and hard drive as you preview the
timeline, and what processes are running and using your computer resources.

I have a pretty souped up computer, with memory peaked
out and all extraneous memory goblers shut down.

It's a brand new PC with a giant 175 GB hard drive. The
processor is 2.66 Ghz P4, 512 MB of ram--

Still have a problem. As I mentioned before, other
programs like VirtualDub, Rad Video, ShowBiz, Camcorder
Recorder all preview without issue. I don't think it's a
memory issue.

Windows Movie Maker worked fine until a few days ago, so
this is a stumper. :)

Any other thoughts?

Hi there,

I hate to tell you this....I have just had three messages arrive and the
two from you both had a virus called ANNA attached....You might want to use
the cancel message option to try and kill it off. Anyone without protection
is going to come unstuck

I can only refer you to the Problem Solving... Checklist of my website. But,
it seems that it might be outside of Movie Maker and not covered in the
Checklist. Maybe a more general newsgroup like
microsoft.public.windowsxp.video
