'Not responding' - This is ridiculous

I am using Vista and Excel 2007 Enterprise edition. Several weeks ago, I was
having those 'not responding' issues with Excel. I uninstalled one of the
Microsoft Add-ins, and the problem disappeared.

It is back, and has nothing to do with graphics or data points. If I open
up Excel with an empty spreadsheet, then click "Close", it locks up and does
the "Not Responding" pout. I can't get rid of it through Task Manager, and in
fact, cannot even do a soft CNTL-ALT-DEL reboot. Vista will not log off and
close down while Excel is "active", and I end up having to power down my PC
off to start anew. Should I get the hotfix that was mentioned in previous
messages, even though it clearly states that it's only for the graphics
issue? Anyone have an idea of when SP1 for Excel 2007 will be coming?

I am developing in SharePoint 2007, and it's so tightly tied with
Excel/Excel Services that this problem is having a horrible impact on our
schedule.

Thanks for any insight anyone can bring.

Did you try terminating it through the Processes tab of Task Manager as well
as the Applications tab? If you do it through the Applications tab, it
should try to shut it down gently to start with. Through the Processes tab
it should kill it stone dead, which usually works even when the other method
doesn't.

I did try using all available termination options with Task Manager, to no
avail. This thing is persistent. In fact, it would not even let me log out
and shut down properly.

I did find a 'solution', however. The problem began when I allowed Vista to
upload the 'important' updates from Microsoft, just as previously it began
when I uploaded a Microsoft Add-in. Going through those seven 2007 Office
System Updates and removing them all had the effect of fixing my Excel 2007.
