When I open up the "Microsoft AntiSoftware," it gives me
the "not responding" error message. I've tried
restarting the computer, but the error message still
returns each time I try to open the program. So
basically I can't sue the software. The installation
went fine and completed normally. So why exactly won't
it work...?

Hi

First remove all temporarily files (junk), CCleaner can
be used, www.ccleaner.com or manual removal.

Try then to restart in safe mode, press F8 during reboot just before
Windows flag screen appears.

Start MSAS, if possible ?! choose a fullscan with all options checked.

Are you running Microsoft AntiSpyware under a Limited or Administrator
account. Which build of the software are you running, 614 or 615? You can
repair Windows AntiSpyware using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Click Microsoft AntiSpyware and click Change. Click Next, and then click
Update.

Thanks so much for your help! It's working great now...
the antispyware found 35 highly severe spyware files in
my computer! This is the first antispyware program I've
used that actually found the bad files and deleted
them... permenantly. :-)

Be sure to also:

update your antivirus application
restart in safe mode by pressing the f8 function key before the initial
Windows screen appears.

Do full, deep scans with Microsoft Antispyware in safe mode until one comes
through clean. Do the same with your antivirus.

The testimonial is terrific--but given your experience, I'd recommend
double-checking in safe mode to be sure it got as much as possible.
