Not Recording Sound

hi. I have a dell dimension running windows xp using an
aureal vortex 8830 sound card.
i cannont record sound using the windows xp sound
recorder OR real producer. Yes, the microphone is plugged
in correctly. yes, i have run the wizard to set up the
microphone. at the point when the microphone setup wizard
asks to test the microphone, the meters do not respond.

please help!

Hi Ken,

Did you install the PCI sound card and does your
motherboard also have a onboard sound card? If so you
have to set your audio setting to use the sound card you
inastalled, not the motherboard sound card, which will be
the default sound.
