I'm using my newly bought Canon Optura 20 dv Camcorder to convert my VHS tapes to digital. I have XP Home Edition which I think came with Movie Maker 2.0. It was working fine just yesterday, everything was working. I went to windows updates and of couse I updated Movie Maker, Why not, right? Well now it won't recognize the pass-through. It recognizes my camcorder and goes directly to "enter a file name" page. If I keep going I have to choose either manual or automatic recording which will then take me to the problem which says "tape not detected in camera". This didn't happen at all before the update, and movie maker looks different than before so I know it updated. Spending all night trying to fix it,I think I really screwed up because "system restore" does not go before my update. And I scoured the internet and cannot find the original version. PLEASE HELP!!! I know there is an action before the "choose a file name" window (I think it's a window that let's you choose a device, but it automatically recognizes the camcorder). Please HELP!!!

MM2 doesn't support pass-thru.... Microsoft released a utility to use with
it for that feature (see the Problem Solving > Checklist page of my website
for a link, in the section about Limitations).

Or you can find a copy of the version 1 executable and run both versions of
Movie Maker together.... you can capture with MM1 while you edit a project
in another window with 2.
