We have a second hard drive under Windows XP. The drive
was working for a long time. When the computer was turned
off and back on, the second drive gets some kind of disk
failure. It goes by too fast too read. If we go into
SETUP, the drive appears to be there.

1. Is there a way to step through the boot process, or
stop when a screen gets full so we can see the erro msg ?

Thank you,

David Billman

There is always the Pause/Break key which should stop the computer at any
point during the boot up process. Press any key to start the boot process
again.

To force a windows boot menu whereby you can step through the startup press
the F8 key during the boot up process and that should force a boot menu.

I have the same problem which just started to happen the
other day. It all started after an automatic update from
Microsoft. Does this sound familiar?

BTW, when your computer is done booting up does it assign
2 drive letters to your secondary hard drive?

This happens to me. Frustrating to see my computer
working this way.

NO, not any recent updates.

The second is not seen in MY COMPUTERS (or elsewhere).
The drive is making some strange noises.

Can the data on it be saved somehow ?

Dave
