The primary suggestion would be for you to post a bunch of additional detail
on such things as your ISP/E-mail provider, what error messages you may get
(please post them in their entirety), whether or not you running an
AntiVirus application setup to scan email and, if you are, whose, and any
other details that may come to mind - every little bit helps.

Hal-Please help!
I have not been able to link my email to hotmail. I tried doing several
things but still it won't link. It told me to down load windows live mail
and this didn't work off line-it said it would...I am disapointed in
Vista....spending too much time trying to get simple things to work. How do
I do it? Any help?
Thanks

You can't access Hotmail accounts with Windows Mail, unless you pay for the
Plus account (then you can access the POP server).
Use the newer Windows Live Mail to access the free Hotmail/Live accounts.
And don't enter your email address where a server name is required.
We can't help you unless you help us by describing your problem more fully.

I am not surprised you are having problems with Windows Mail.
Norton antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for
Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months
have gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here: http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm
Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail
