not receiving emails

I have friends sending me emails to two different
addresses because there are times when no emails will
download in Outlook, the program I prefer for email. They
ALWAYS appear in hotmail. Right now, even Outlook is
difficult to use. When I try to type, the curser doesn't
follow the typing and the screen jumps. I am at my wits
end about where to begin, with Windows XP, with Outlook,
with Outlook Express which I have also tried to use, or
with my provider. My provider has no more answers. It is
like something is blocking those emails and they get
kicked off. I update, I delete sent and deleted emails,
I defrag. I need something else to try.
 
Can you give some further details about your connection- for instance are
you on a LAN, or a dial up connection?
Basically with Outlook/ Outlook Express you need to ensure
the username and password are correct,
that you are logging in under the right identity,
the server settings are correct and
the right connection is correctly configured.
The cursor problem could be various things from a sticking key or a faulty
keyboard (especially with the amount of drinks around in the summer
weather). Try a different keyboard to check it.

Server settings and right connection? I don't know how to
check this further. The problem is NOT consistent.
The keyboard problem has gone away.

To check server settings in Outlook Express
open the program
click 'tools'
click 'accounts'. Click the mailtab, highlight the account giving the prob,
then click the properties button.
Click the 'server' tab - it should have 'pop3' selected in the top window,
then the server names for POP3 and SMTP.
These will be provided by your ISP, or maybe they were noted during the
initial setup, and will look something like 'mail.ispinternet.com'. You
could also re-insert your name and password at this point in case that's
become corrupted. Click 'apply' if you make any changes.
Some ISP's require you to use their connection to use their email, so click
the 'connection' tab and check the dial up isn't 'differentisp.com'. Again,
click 'apply' if you make changes.
Click 'ok' to close the panel.
Some of these details may need to be checked with your ISP (exact servers
names, for instance) so go to their website - it's cheaper than a support
call.
