Not Really A Vista Issue

two part question,

i upgraded this pc to windows vista home prem.
i know when upgrading, a folder was created, windows.old
what if anything can i delete from that folder?

question 2
i was moving files/folders from windows.old
i F'ed up and deleted a folder by mistake and before realizing what i
did, i emptied the recycle bin. i found a file recovery program online.
recovered some, not all files from that folder.
the files i did recover are pictures. but some i can'nt view now
even tho it says its a jpeg.
are those lost forever?

any help aprecited,

First, you can erase the whole windows.old folder if you have everything you
want out of it.

Second, if you already tried a file recovery program and it didn't work:
probably. Sometimes, the place on the hard drive where it was located is
written over, and it permenantly deletes the erased file. You might try
opening it in Photoshop or something...
