My computer sometimes fails read my FDDs. It shows the disc as empty
when it is not, or displays the contents of the last search, even
though that disc has been removed. Sometimes it will read a disc in B
but not in A, or the other way round.

Can anymody help?

That sounds like a damaged floppy controller. Maybe a damaged floppy
cable. Today the former can usually only be repaired with a new
mainboard. Try the cable first.

What is your operating system? Old versions of DOS/Windows don't manage
floppies very well. To force a change of disk, read the directory when the
drive is empty.
