I am trying to logon to an XP machine through remote
desktop. On my SBS 2000 I have setup the user as a member
of the group "Backoffice Remote Desktop Group".

However, when I try to logon to the machine with that user
id, I get the "local policy of this system does not permit
you to logon locally". I have gone to the RDP connection
within SBS and configured it.

I am remotely setting up new machines for an office
located an hour from me so I dial-in and need to be able
to logon as that user temporarily to see everything on
their desktop.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance, JJ

On the XP machine you're trying to remote desktop to, add
the Backoffice Remote Desktop Group (or just the user
you're using) to the /XP/ machine's Remote Desktop Users
Group.

I have tried that, but on the xp machine, it doesn't allow
me to select a user from the Domain machine ( SBS 2000 ).
Do you know how to configure it so it will show up in the
list during the selection on the remote desktop tab?
Thx.

Yes, you can control this from the SBS 2000 machine.
You'd need to create a Group Policy Object that affects
the XP machine in question. Then you can set that group
policy object to use whatever settings you specify for
that XP machine's Remote Desktop Users group.

The problem about being unable to add the domain user is
a different one, however.

If you run "ipconfig /all" from a command prompt on the
XP machine, what is listed for the DNS server? If it is
not your SBS 2000 server's IP address, change it to be
your SBS 2000 server's IP address, and reboot...see if
you're able to add it then.

Thanks for the advice, I got one of my machines to work by
under the groups on the local machine changed Remote
Desktop Users to BackOffice Remote Operators which is the
group name on the server, but when I tried to do this for
another machine it said that basically the machine is not
trusted for the Domain. Do you know how to make it "trusted"?
Thanks

To use domain accounts or groups, the machine must be joined to the domain.

This is done in properties of My Computer (right-click My Computer and
choose properties) computer name tab.

If this is XP Home, you will not be able to join it to the domain, however.
