not getting any sound

i can't get any sound at all on my computer. recently i had problems opening my cdrom and tried some things and i think i inaverdently erased my sound device because when i go into the sound properties window it says: there are no mixer devices available. how do i reinstall my sound? i'm am really new at this stuff so if you could give me expicit instructions, i would greatly appreciate it. Help!

I'm have the exact same problem ...I can't hear music on my cd's, on websites, music i've downloaded onto my computer. I just had my computer's hard drive reformatted and everything was working great! Now no music or sounds at all. Hope someone can help. This is getting very ignoying!
