I have Microsoft Outlook SR-1.
Within the "contacts" folder I have 7 sub-folders. When I look for a contact
by typing in a name in the box at the top of the main outlook page (there is
a little book icon) I get the message "Outlook could not find the requested
contact". I know that the contact definately exists within one of the
sub-folders. However, searching for a contact within the "contact" folder
does work.

Thanks so much.

You failed to post a correct Outlook version.
Did you enable each subfolder as an email address book?

By typing a name in the box at the top of the main outlook page, OL uses the
search engine by default WITHOUT subfolder serch option (I don't know why),
so the serching process is done only within the folder you are positoned.
You have to enter the "Find In:" drop down menu and check the subfolder
search option. Each time!!!!
I hope somebody have different suggestion.

Not true.
Of course one can only guess what you mean by "main Outlook page."

Enabling each subfolder as an email address book is the solution. Thank you
so much!

I enabled each subfolder as an email address and it is not! working. The way
I try to find a contact is to right click on the email address and "look up
contact". This is the way I need to do it because I am always searching for
past correspondence in order to answer questions. The only contacts the
program finds are those in the main contact folder - non of the subfolders.
