not enough space on temporary disk

I am running a large query on an archive database. After
the query runs for 10-15 minutes I get "not enough space
on temporary disk".

I can watch a file jet.tmp file grow to about 256mb in my
temp directory while it is running. Then it stops. I
have planty of rrom on my hard drive. Any help would be
appreciated.
