not enough free disk space, but 123gb free

m trying to move a 4.22GB file to my external hard dive, and keep
getting
the error
"can't copy file. There is not enough free disk space."When i check how
much
free space i have left on my external drive it says 123GB free. How
can I
move the file?
Im running XP and the external drive is an acomadata 250gb drive.

What file system is the external hard drive formatted in? It sounds like
it may be FAT32 which would explain the error. Use NTFS instead.

there is a command you can run from a cmd window that will convert the drive
for you. you can find the command by searching XP's help file. The
conversion utility is bundled with XP.

I missed the start of this one. Is the copy being attempted to
FAT32 or NTFS? If FAT, isn't 4.32 gig over the limit for a single
file or am I mixing this up with other of its limitations?
 
that would destroy the data on the drive..the XP command would be "convert"
and 9 out of 10 times it will play nice .......
