Not detecting drives (and for no reason)

Jonathan

Suddenly none of my drives (CD burner, DVD ROM) are
detected. No new hardware has been installed, and no new
software either. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling
the software but I still have the same problem. When I go
deep into the device manager it says:

----
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this
device.
----

I tried running the troubleshooter and it comes up with
nothing.

I also tried updating the drivers, but no updates are
available.

I'm not really sure where to go from here. Both drives
are obviously plugged in and powered up, and like I said,
nothing was changed before they stopped working. They
simply ceased working one day.

Thanks a lot for any and all help.
