I had a cd-rom installed working with no problems. Then i
installed a cd-writer, windows detects the cd writer but
not my cd-rom. So i upluged to cd-writer and it detects
the cd-rom again. Plug cd writer in and it only detects
the cd writer.

any thoughts?
thanks

It's likely that your problem is hardware related. If both
drives work separately but not together than it points to
either drivers or the hardware setup. In this case I have
to rule out drivers because Windows 2000 should have no
problems with two CD drives.

I'm assuming you only have one hard drive so it'd be good
to configure it as master on the primary IDE channel
(which it probably is already) and put the burner and the
CDROM on the secondary IDE channel. I recommend using your
CD burner primarily over the regular CDROM drive. So, set
your CD burner to MASTER (with the jumpers on the back)
and put it at the top of the IDE cable. Set the CDROM
drive to SLAVE and put it on the IDE cable. Plug in the
power and see if it works.
