I have been trying to get rid of some Exploit-Byte Verify files that I
believe have buried themselves in my system restore file. McAfee solution is
to turn off the system restore and then delete files. When I try check the
"Turn off system restore" and then highlight the drive and set the number of
points to 0, I'm told that I am unable to do that. Any thoughts?

It sounds like the system is still infected. Turning off System Restore is
the last step in cleaning the system. Infections living within restore
points are not a threat unless the system is restored using a infected
restore point.

I would suggest going to the following forum and post a HiJackThis log but
only after reading the announcement at the top of the list.

Moving the slider to 0 is not the way to remove all restore points.

Turn off System Restore using these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Select the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System
Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.
5. Restart the system.
