Not able to send--

I tried to send e-mail. This is what I received. Does this still have to do
with the anti-virus software? Thanks in advance!

Could well be AV related, if your settings are right,
especially if you are a Norton or McAfee victim.

If so uninstall and use Avast instead without email scanning component.
 
WithOUT the e-mail componet. OK--I will give that a shot. This seems to
happen to a lot of folks. YUCK.

The big players in the pc manufacturing and Internet service provider
market are corrupt in so far as they are knowingly encouraging their
customers to use faulty software because they receive commission
from the authors.

It is particularly disgusting when they then try to charge for
technical support to clear up the mess they were paid to create.

If at all possible give no repeat business to anyone who
pushes Norton or McAfee antivirus for Vista pcs.
 
You need to enable the SSL option for your outgoing (SMTP) server.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the account. Properties, Advanced.

I am SO ready to scream. On my install of avast. It is STILL running a
scan. This has been since Sunday. Is that normal? I can't be..I've been told
it taks a long time--BUT--this. Makes me wonder if I messed it up somehow.
Should I uninstall (if I have indeed installed something) and re-install?

Remove my account names and re-add them?

On the enable of my outgoing mail--I've gotten dizzy--the box should be
checked...I've forgotten which is which.

UGH.

And I've not even gotten to installing Windows Live Mail....

Now, I've charged into a brick wall. Dizzy is right.

As far as Avast taking a long time to scan your hard drive, you can stop
it, and resume the scan some other time.

Are you able to send after enabling the SSL option for the outgoing
(SMTP) mail server? If not, post the latest error message here.

I am unable to send. I received this:

'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
 
You still did not enable SSL. That's what the part of the error
message that says "Secure (SSL): No" means.

So, go to Tools, Accounts, select the 'Home' account, Properties,
Advanced, select the box for "This server requires a secure
connection (SSL)." Both outgoing and incoming servers require it.
