Although I checked the option "send e-mail straight away" the mails are not
send. They appear in the outgoing box. Even if I click "send and retrieve"
the mails are not sent, only new mails will be retrieved. I have to close and
re-open mail, then click "send and retrieve" then the mails will be send. I
also checked the option "check for new mails every XX minutes (I chose 5
minutes), but even if I wait, the mails are not send. But of course I can
receive e-mails regularely.

Does anyone has an idea how to solve this?

Many thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Click on Inbox, then Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then
Properties. If there's no check mark before Include this account when
receiving mail or synchronizing, click on the box and then Apply. Click
on OK are then Close.

This problem may be caused by an incompatible antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
and Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

First I'd like to thank you all for your help. Gary: you are right. my
antivirus is Norton. I tried now to disable the e-mail scanning, but nothing
changed. The problem remains. But actually I don't want to uninstall the
Norton, as I just bought it for a godless amount. So if this is really the
reason for this malfuntion, than I'd rather take it as it is, I surely get
used to close and open mail ;-) At least I can send e-mails, it is just a
but, well, not very comfortable.

For your own peace of mind it might be nice to know if Norton
is really causing that problem or not. The only way to find out
is to uninstall it completely, then test WinMail again. You can
always reinstall Norton. Your other option would be to upgrade
to Windows Live Mail, since it doesn't seem to be quite so
sensitive to interference from antivirus programs.
