Not able to print in DOS

I have win 2000 and am trying to print using DOS. The
process was working fine until I installed a new modem. I
have not been able to print through DOS since.

I have deleted and reinstalled the printer (Laserjet 4000)
I have also updated the printer driver to no avail.

I have also tweaked the LPT1 port configuration and it
works until I have to reboot the computer.

If anyone has any ideas as to how to fix this problem,
Please help.
