Not able to insert header footer in my word doc

I am trying to add numbering to word doc.After certain pages I am not able to
add header footer.This is only happening for some pages.Am I missing
something.
 
You only add your header/footer once (and in each Section, you can see
up to three different ones -- Different First Page, Odd = Righthand
Page, Even = Lefthand Page), and whatever you type in each one will
appear on every corresponding page.

If you don't see the header/footer when you're back in your text, then
put your cursor on the very narrow space between two pages (it turns
into a sort of waffle iron with handles both ways) and double-click to
restore the "white space" between pages.
