Dear group,

I have run into a strange issue. I try to add a Personal Address Book file
to a profile. It nicely shows up when I look at change/view existing address
books.

However if I look at it at the available address lists (either from the
Options in Address Book OR when composing a mail) it is not visible and thus
cannot be accessed.

Have you got any idea regarding this issue?

Thanks for your help.

Sandor Teglasy jun.

How was this PAB created and how do you know what its contents are? Had you
recently updated it to be sure it was your data repository?
Outlook has not used a PAB for years. Perhaps this is an old PAB that was no
longer being used.

Russ, thanx you for your reply. It's actually NOT the case, that it shows
up, but it's empty. It rather contains the data, before the upgrade from
OL2K to OL2K3 it has worked just fine. The only silly thing is that I can't
get it to show up the PAB in the "Address Book" window after upgrading to
OL2K3.

Rgds,
Sandor

List the steps you used to add it to your profile.
Clarify what you mean by the "PAB Window."
I assume you are aware that PAB's are no longer supported and exist for
legacy purposes only. You are way overdue to migrate to a Contacts
Folder/Outlook Address Book.

Yes, I'm aware of it, I just would like to get the data out of PAB and then
it will be over :)
So the steps I've followed is:

1. Tools > E-mail accounts > Add new directory or address book
2. Additional Address Books
3. Personal Address Book

Then I confirmed the file that I wanted to open.

Afterwards I went to the Address Book (accessed via the Tools menu) and
Options.

Then I wanted to add it to the address books that are checked for name
resolution, but I saw only contacts and the different parts of the GAL.

Do you have any idea?

Did you restart Outlook after you added the Personal Address Book?

I don't understand your problem. Why would you be trying to add a PAB to the
Outlook Address Book Service? You can't do that.

Never mind. I think I see what you mean. You are unable to find the PAB in
your Address Book viewer even after you've added it successfully to your
profile, right?
I've never seen that problem, but then I've never seen anyone still try to
access a PAB in Outlook 2003.
Does your PAB file seem to be of the correct size?
Have you tried importing it to see what happens?
Have you looked over the information here?

Thank you for these tips. I think, importing the data into contacts is
a good option for my needs - I've just never done that before, but it
should work.

Thank you.
