This is an update from uninstall of McAfee Sec.Cntr.


I did it, rebooted, installed avast - rebooted as it said:

desktop - favorites - Int.Explorer - all 100 GIG (that's right) of my images
and work docs are gone.

FORTunately, I have this second computer.

Did a restore - no difference.

Good thing I have MOST backup items.

I feel for you...

"McAfee" was CRAP back in 1996, and, apparently, *nothing* has changed.

I'll mention an example. Way back when, I had both Norton AV & McAfee AV
installed (early Win95 days); only 1 was in use real-time. Okay; I wanted to
uninstall both, so I could put in a later release of NAV. With a reboot or 3
(max 3), and 15 (20 max) minutes, NAV was out.

3 & 1/2 hours-plus later, I was still un-winding McAfee's tendril's from
Win95. Certain context-menu entries (with nothing they'd run) seemed to hang
on *forever*. I don't recall what else McCrapee left behind to torment me,
but those 210 minutes (3 & 1/2 hours) have *certainly* stuck in my mind ever
since.

If I were you, then I'd *never* (and I *DO* mean NEVER) install *anything*
either made, or taken-over by "McAfee" again. EVER.

Unfortunately when I bought this new machine they had temp subscriptions of
NAV and Mcafee loaded.......

had to hapen sooner or later. So I know how I'm spending my night -
reconst!

Maybe this'll help someone else.

When I bought this emachine, they had said if I uninstalled aANYthing on it,
etc. (even the temp.subsrciptions), it voided the warranty. Doncha love it.

This is where it got me; I just got done writing a nice long formal
complaint letter to McAfee and eMachines re: the lil burp in life for me.

This is hard to believe. Are you sure you didn't log back in as a
different user? If you logged in as someone else then all your
documents, desktop, and favorites would be different.

My sorry saga - similar to yours, included installing MacaFee to get rid of
Norton....... :o((

Oh jees.... oh crimony..... *Ouch*.
 
depending on the state yiu live in you may have s good claim against
emachines for breach of statutory warranty such as breach of implied
(implied by statute) warranty of fitness for use
 
ohhhhh darling, that'd be great, but uncertain if McAfeejunk or EMachines is
indeed the ONE at negligence/fault/etc.

????
