I move around BIG files all the time. For some reason once a file gets
past a certain size when the move dialog box comes up, it spends a lot
of time saying (falsely) that is preparing to move the file. Then
nothing for several seconds, then all at once the progress bar flys
left to right and the file is moved. I'm talking BIG files in excess
of several GB. Anybody else notice this in Windows Explorer?

Yeah, thats the usual behavior for really large files here too.

yeah right! and it spend 5 minuits calculating a 1 kb text file... lol

(reported by many)

I know your reply justin... its working fine on your vista yada yada...

nephew of gates.....

Justin,

No, it's not the same thing. *Many* users have reported
copying, moving, and deleting files can take a lot longer
in Vista than with XP- even worse doing these actions across
a network. I have experienced this numerous times. Has been
this way for me since I first started using Vista betas back in June,
and is still the same since I moved to the RTM in November.
Two different machines running Vista, and on both, this issue happens
often.

People aren't making this up, Justin.

-Michael

Same thing in XP.

Preparing to copy...
Preparing to move...
Preparing to delete...

No it isn't. Geez, Justin, you keep stepping in it.

In XP the progress bar actually SHOWED progress. If a file took 20
seconds to move, that's how the progress bar moved over time. Now for
some reason it only works correctly with smaller files. Large ones it
says it is getting ready, the new little move icon animates, but the
progress scoll bar is totally missing until the very last second then
it just flys from 0% to 100% in less than a second regardless how long
it takes to copy or move the file.

Falsely reported by many trolls, that or they are using 286 era hardware.

It works fine here both on a 2.5 year old laptop & a 6month old mid-range
machine.

I remember reading that this is a feature not a bug, and is a more accurate
representaion of what is actually happening when you move a large file.

Wow, another brilliant nick post!

1. "I move around BIG files all the time." - we're not talking about 1kb
files.

2. We've already gone over that bug a few times in this NG. Go back and
read.

And you say I KEEP STEPPING IN IT? XP does not progress with a progress bar
during the preparing messages. Try again.
Now for
some reason it only works correctly with smaller files.

And you say I KEEP STEPPING IN IT? This specific comment is 100% wrong. As
nick so put it earlier, people have issues with 1kb files as well.

In either case, XP does display those messages. Whether Vista takes longer
or not is a bug for some people and poor drivers for others.
it spends a lot
of time saying (falsely) that is preparing to move the file.

As you've been told by someone else in this thread, you are wrong and this
is by design. You haven't given us any numbers in which to determine if
this is "too long" or not.
Large ones it

progress scoll bar is totally missing until the very last second then
it just flys from 0% to 100% in less than a second regardless how long

This is a THIRD issue. This is a reported bug. You will have to wait for
it to be fixed.

And you say I KEEP STEPPING IN IT? XP does not progress with a progress bar
during the preparing messages. Try again.

Funny that you keep insiting on sticking your foot in your mouth over
and over, thread after thread. I didn't limit my comments to the
preparing message, which you would see if you actually read what I
said which you left above. I was of course referring to the entire
process of copying or moving a file where XP always showed an
advancing progress bar and now Vista doesn't accurately for large
files.
And you say I KEEP STEPPING IN IT? This specific comment is 100% wrong. As

You're just a world class dummy. Totally illiterate in all your
comments. I move/copy hundreds of files every day, all day long and I
can only report what behavior I see. For me, small files 100K or less
is small for me, show proper status bar activity and a time estimate
of how long the process will take to complete. Only large files don't.
In either case, XP does display those messages.

Only you are claiming it don't. said:

You really don't have even a hint how Windows works do you. If you're
going to keep on trying to fake it, you should try harder.
As you've been told by someone else in this thread, you are wrong and this
is by design. You haven't given us any numbers in which to determine if
this is "too long" or not.

I've been told a lot of things in this newsgroup by a lot of people.
So far they're right maybe half the time. You haven't been right about
anything that I can remember.
This is a THIRD issue. This is a reported bug. You will have to wait for
it to be fixed.

Priceless, after doing a crappy job of trying to cover Microsoft's ass
you finally admit oh, that's a bug.

ROTFLMAO!

Say Justin, ever consider taking your "act" on the road? You're a
riot. I know the booking agent for Jay Leno's Tonight Show, want me to
give them a call, you can do your stand up comic routine for them
maybe. Why limit people laughing at you to a little backwater
newsgroup like this.

You keep starting your posts like this. You might want to grow up a little.
No one else feels the need to act this way. You might want to learn from
other people here.

What part of THAT IS A KNOWN BUG did you not understand? You will just have
to wait for a fix. Can you do that? Or is that not acceptable to you?
You're just a world class dummy. Totally illiterate in all your
comments. I move/copy hundreds of files every day, all day long and I
can only report what behavior I see.

I know this. You only know what YOU see. Didn't we just get done with a
flame war about that? You only know what your eyes have seen. Versus those
of us that have talked with many people and have actually been apart of the
beta and have been apart of countless discussions. You were TOLD that
people have this problem with 1kb files as well. So it makes me wonder.
What part of that are you not able to accept? Your reply is that I'm a
world class dummy??? Why? Because many other people have the same problem
with 1kb files?

Just admit you where mistaken. It's ok. We are all wrong once in a while.
Again, other people have that problem with 1kb files. It's NOT just with
large files.

For me, small files 100K or less
is small for me, show proper status bar activity and a time estimate
of how long the process will take to complete. Only large files don't.

FOR YOU. So? Does the sun revolve around you? There are other people in
this NG as well.
Only you are claiming it don't. <big grin>

Are you trying to be a complete moron? I made the INITIAL comment that XP
does display those messages. So how exactly is it that I claim "it don't?"
You really don't have even a hint how Windows works do you. If you're
going to keep on trying to fake it, you should try harder.

You know what, I tried to be a better person. I removed you from my kill
file. I brought forth information that XP does the same thing and you have
done nothing but act like a damn child all over again.

You are a complete waste of time.

Myself and Neil are the only two people to jump in and attempt to give you
some insight. Notice no one else has? That's because the average person
has KILL FILED you. On average, only the trolls respond to you.

I'll say it again, XP has the same messages and you are experience a bug
with the 0-100%. Deal with it!

You keep starting your posts like this. You might want to grow up a little.
No one else feels the need to act this way. You might want to learn from
other people here.

Are you offering yourself as an example of how to be more adult?

ROTFLMAO!

flame war about that? You only know what your eyes have seen. Versus those
of us that have talked with many people and have actually been apart of the

Oh please... knock off the phony you know more than anybody else
routine. If you were a beta tester, the first question I would ask you
is how did Vista get out the door with so many obvious and easy to
spot bugs? This topic is just one of many. Got a answer better then it
will get fixed later?
You were TOLD that
people have this problem with 1kb files as well. So it makes me wonder.
What part of that are you not able to accept? Your reply is that I'm a
world class dummy??? Why? Because many other people have the same problem
with 1kb files?

Hint: You TOLD me something AFTER I asked the question. Well duh,
isn't that the way its suppose to be? You claim you were involved with
Vista for over a year. I've had just a couple weeks to play with it
and I bet I know more about it then you do already. ;-)
Just admit you where mistaken. It's ok. We are all wrong once in a while.
Again, other people have that problem with 1kb files. It's NOT just with
large files.

You're wrong nearly with every topic, yet here you are again preaching
the gospel according to Justin. Damn funny.
FOR YOU. So? Does the sun revolve around you? There are other people in
this NG as well.

Why do you insist on being an obnoxious a-hole? I can only relate MY
experience. You try to speak for everybody and then end up with your
foot in your mouth and egg on your face time after time.
Are you trying to be a complete moron?

You already have that title kid.
You know what, I tried to be a better person.

Try harder. MUCH harder.
I removed you from my kill file.

Priceless, I'm suppose to be grateful some Bozo removes me from his
kill file then to stroke his own bloated ego needs to announce it to
the world. Geez Justin, you are a funny kid, that's for sure.
I brought forth information that XP does the same thing and you have
done nothing but act like a damn child all over again.

Have you always whined on and on like this?
You are a complete waste of time.

Yet here you are again needing to respond to me.
Myself and Neil are the only two people to jump in and attempt to give you
some insight.

Oh please... if your head was any more swollen than it already is it
just might explode. Please... be careful!
Notice no one else has? That's because the average person
has KILL FILED you. On average, only the trolls respond to you.

You know that from reading tea leaves or did a little birdie tell you?
I'll say it again, XP has the same messages and you are experience a bug
with the 0-100%. Deal with it!

You're just a fool Justin. Everyone knows. Now dance some more for our
entertainment.

Adam strikes again!

Oh please... knock off the phony you know more than anybody else
routine.

I don't know more then "anybody". Wrong again.
If you were a beta tester, the first question I would ask you
is how did Vista get out the door with so many obvious and easy to
spot bugs?

Easy. When Vista was in B2 there were ~1,200 bugs/issues. MS goal was to
get that down to ~500 by RTM. With that information alone you can assume
there are ~500 bugs in Vista straight off the DVD. Although at this point,
many updates have been published. When you factor in these updates and
driver updates, you start seeing less and less problems.

I know you keep proclaiming that I've stated Vista has no faults. But
that's just a lie created by yourself and your emotional problems. Vista
has it's problems and most of us here are well aware of them. That's how
we're able to determine "driver problems" so quickly when that's the case.

When it's not the case, like your file copy issue, we clearly state BUG.

See how easy that is? Now tell me how stupid I am and how childish I
am....go ahead...it's what you do best.
Hint: You TOLD me something AFTER I asked the question. Well duh,
isn't that the way its suppose to be? You claim you were involved with
Vista for over a year. I've had just a couple weeks to play with it
and I bet I know more about it then you do already. ;-)

If you say so. Good for you.

You're wrong nearly with every topic, yet here you are again preaching
the gospel according to Justin. Damn funny.

Really? How's that? You have found a KNOWN bug. Please explain how that's
wrong. Also, post quotes from the other threads you claim I've been wrong.
Why do you insist on being an obnoxious a-hole? I can only relate MY
experience. You try to speak for everybody and then end up with your
foot in your mouth and egg on your face time after time.

Really? That's odd. A 100+ times I've stated ALL the different problems
that many of the different people here experience. That's not speaking FOR,
that's speaking OF.

Ha! I like how you snipped out the import part and didn't address it. Try
again:

"I made the INITIAL comment that XP does display those messages. So how
exactly is it that I claim "it don't?""
Oh please... if your head was any more swollen than it already is it
just might explode. Please... be careful!

Yet again Adam? Why do you post if you don't want responses? Stating FACT
is not a swollen head. You'll just never get it.

You know that from reading tea leaves or did a little birdie tell you?

I know that by reading this NG. When someone who isn't a troll does respond
to you, it's to make note of how wrong you were. Remember the tearing
thread? Thread subject "New, Non-Cosmetic Features In Vista -- Ten Good
Reasons To Upgrade".

You're just a fool Justin. Everyone knows. Now dance some more for our
entertainment.

Hum...you seem to have learned your dance routine from alias. Nice! I also
like how you didn't address that comment at all. You just your make your
usual winded comments.

Hum...Adam strikes again! What part of OTHER people did you not understand?

What part of you being seen as a fool don't you understand?

I thought I was in your "kill file". That of course is just more of
your BS. Exceedingly vain people like couldn't stand to not know what
others may say about them. So you read every word I say along with
what others say when you rant mindlessly. You are probably a 30 or 40
year old something clown, but you act like a 14 year old at best.

Is this you?

there are ~500 bugs in Vista straight off the DVD. Although at this point,
many updates have been published. When you factor in these updates and
driver updates, you start seeing less and less problems.

So you admit Microsoft knowingly ships a product with at least 500
known unresolved bugs in it. I wonder if Billy G approves.
Ha! I like how you snipped out the import part and didn't address it. Try
again:

You're a damn fool. You don't get to control what other people respond
to. This is Usenet. People respond to what they wish to respond to and
usually piss all over mindless little wannabe know-it-all fakers like
you, just for sport. You really don't catch on do ya. Too bad.
Yet again Adam? Why do you post if you don't want responses? Stating FACT
is not a swollen head. You'll just never get it.

You like facts? OK, you're a damn fool. Lots of people, not just me,
keep dumping all over you, and you keep coming back for more.
Priceless!
I know that by reading this NG. When someone who isn't a troll does respond
to you, it's to make note of how wrong you were.

You're full of shit. Excuse my French. You aren't even smart enough to
understand that for every poster there is probably a 100 lurkers that
read a lot of posts but rarely if ever post themselves.
Remember the tearing
thread? Thread subject "New, Non-Cosmetic Features In Vista -- Ten Good
Reasons To Upgrade".

You keep doing it. There is no such thing as "tearing". Cite a
creditable reference to prove I'm wrong. Lots of luck.
