Hi,
Can someone that runs Norton tell me why when I turn my PC on the Norton
Icon is not in the systray? I open Norton and I have 2 errors. The Protect
one and e-mail have a red check by them..I have to enable the Protect every
time and then the icon shows up.......Thank you very much..Nel

It would help to know what Symanec stuff you're running, i.e. just
Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security or Norton Systemworks.
But try this generic fix :

Open your Norton, click on 'Options' then 'Norton Antivirus' then make
sure there are checkmarks beside 'Enable Auto-Protect', 'Start
Auto-Protect when Windows starts up, and 'Show Auto-Protect icon in
tray'. HTH

Hi Bud,
I'm running the professional Edition. Does that tell you anything? I'm not
great at this..It's Norton 2003.

I went to 'Options' and 'Enable Auto-Protect' All three were checked. The
next time I booted the 'Enable A Pro' was not checked, so I did it again and
the icon came on and the Red errors went away. But can't get the E. Auto-Pro
to stay on. The other ones do. There's no 'Apply' It's strange that the icon
doesn't come on as the check is there...
Thanks Bud......Nel

Seems I didn't help much and I'm stumped. Hope someone can solve it for
you. Duh.

Can't solve it, but why not try posting in one of the many norton or
symantec.support newsgroups to see if anyone there can help?

Hi,
The icon came back this time. Don't know what I did. Maybe the 'Auto
Protect' stayed on this time...Really crazy, this Norton.....Thanks guys
( didn't even know there was a Symantec newsgroup or Norton...thanks)

You coul have a look at the Startup Config and make sure ccApp is
running on start up.

I have seen similar to your problem on NIS 2005 but not on 2003.

Go Start > Run > msconfig

Click the Start up Tab

ccApp should be present and ticked. If its not you will have all sorts
of problems including no auto protect on startup.

Other than that you can try the Norton cure all method and uninstall
/ re-install, might even work for a change

I've seen similar situations with NIS 2004, I feature sometimes they do
an update but it isn't entirely right for all machines and software, no
solution until you get the next update.
