Norton vs McAfee

Hi:
When I scanned by using McAfee, it was taking too
long to finish. It took about two and a half hours
while on Norton, it took about one and 15 minutes.

Wonder why McAfee taking too long to scan?

Also, once awhile, McAfee at right bottom corner
popping up as warning 'need to scan.'

How often do Anti-Virus can normally need to
perform when the pc has no problem?

btw) I uninstalled Norton in favor to McAfee which
is free through my ISP.

The vast majority of unpaid users (i.e. not magazine reviewers)
and those with more than a modicum of computer knowledge seem
to recommend *against* using Norton and McAfee, as they're both
resource hogs and quite difficult to uninstall when (not "if")
the time comes.
 
I cannot bad mouth McAfee enough. Simply put, they suck.

I got a virus, a bad one, when I was running McAfee. I do not remember the
name of the virus, but what I do remember was that I couldn't even access
the internet. I had to pay McAfee extra $$$ for a fix, above what I had
already paid for my subscription. I had to have a friend download the fix
for me, load it on a floppy and bring it over to my place.

I should add that the virus was in an E-mail attachment from what I thought
was a friend. Well, the friend hadn't sent the E-mail, their virus infected
machine did. When I called them on the phone to inquire about things, their
machine was in the shop getting cleaned out. This must have been seven to
ten years ago, don't remember for sure.

Since McAfee charged me extra to fix something that their software should
have taken care of in the first, I take every opportunity that I can to bad
mouth them.

I'd like to think that my word of mouth advertising has cost McAfee several
times over what it cost me, dollar wise.

Going back to the 90's and Windows 95/98, used to Install McAfee, then they
upped their version, and... crash crash crash.. :(((

Switched to Norton, v4/5, worked OK for some time, until Windows 2000 days,
with the 2000/2002 version ... wait for it... crash, crash, crash.

Bet that was a surprise.

Have one office using a site licence for AVG for Networks, and it works
quite acceptably well, especially considering the very modest cost per
machine. If it has a flaw it's an occasional tendency to false positives.
They are very quick with new virus alerts, though, which is reassuring. Just
thinking about signing-up a second office to same. Some people in here don't
like AVG, and I might just check the alternatives first based on that.
However, I can definitely say that AVG is 1000% better than Norton/McAfee, no
doubt whatsoever about that.

You are forgetting one small but extremly significant fact, and that would
be...
Wesley's name carries quite a bit of weight here and who might you be?
 
I will try Kaspersky OR Nod32 as it is more robust in handling huge files..

Kaspersky:If you consider eyecandy for the program
NOD32:If you want raw power
