I installed Norton System Works 2005. It includes a performance test. I was
pleased to see my system excels in almost all categories except the one I
thought it would excel. The hard drive.

My C: drive is a WD Raptor 76GB. It came in a poor second to the Dell
Dimension 8300. Is it possible I have something configured wrong for the
Raptor to operate at optimal speed?

The MB is an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe with 1GB duel channel memory. The Raptor
is connect to one of the Intel 8280 1EB Ultra ATA storage Controllers. There
is a Hitachi 250GB drive connected to the other controller.

Any suggestions?

I thought the Raptors were SATA so if youre running it from an ATA
controller there must be some kind of adaptor which is causing the
understandable dip in performance.

Did NSW specifically detail the drives performance in the comparison or was
it an overall score? If it was an overall score then the type of graphics
card used can make a big difference.

Also I'm not so sure how accurate and respected the NSW measurements are. I
mean Ive never seen it used as an "industry standard" in any benchtests.

YMMV but HTH
